KLANG: Solving traffic issues is one of the main agendas for both the Pakatan Harapan and Perikatan Nasional candidates contesting for the Kota Kemuning seat in the state polls.
Harapan’s S. Preakas, 41, and Perikatan’s Jimmy Chew, 54, both said that the biggest problem in the constituency is traffic congestion.
“There are only a few roads in the area which lead to the main highways.
“There has to be better accessibility here,’’ said Preakas, who is a lawyer by profession.
This is the first time the father of a 12-year-old girl is contesting in the polls.
“I have been a DAP member for more than 10 years and have been helping in election campaigns as well as in constituencies prior to this,’’ he added.
Preakas also said he is warmly welcomed in the constituency during his campaign rounds.
According to him, the Kota Kemuning state seat has 45% Malay, 35% Chinese and 18% Indian voters.
Preakas also said his strategy would be to propagate the detailed Pakatan manifesto that was unveiled by Selangor caretaker mentri besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari on Monday night.
His competitor Perikatan’s Jimmy Chew also concurred that traffic congestion was one of Kota Kemuning’s biggest headaches.
“In addition to that, there are several dangerous U-turns, which can endanger motorists and pedestrians and two of them (dangerous U-turns) are in front of schools,’’ said the 54-year-old father of three adult children.
Chew said the road system in the area was also complicated and made it difficult for people to get around hassle-free.
“The route from the Kesas Highway to Kota Kemuning is also very long and perhaps putting-up a flyover will overcome this,’’ he added.
Chew, who has been a Gerakan member for 18 years, had contested the Puchong parliamentary seat in the last election and lost to DAP’s Yeo Bee Yin.
The Kota Kemuning seat will see a three-cornered fight between Preakas, Chew and PRM’s KK Gunasekaran.
