SEREMBAN: Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun is again caught in a four-cornered fight for the Sikamat state seat.
The caretaker Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar, who is vying his fourth term, is being challenged by Perikatan Nasional’s Ahmad Raihan Muhamad Hilal as well as independents Bujang Abu and Mohammed Hafiz Baharuddin.
In the 2018 general election, he was also involved in a four-cornered fight. He polled 9,832 votes against Barisan Nasional’s Syamsul Amri Ismail (6,419 votes), PAS’ Rahim Yusof (1,331) and Bujang (15) to defend the constituency, which he first won in the 2008 general election.
When met after filing his papers, Aminuddin, who is also Port Dickson MP, said he would not be taking his opponents lightly although he had served for three terms.
“I know all of them as they live in the area. I am not going to take them lightly,” he added.
Incumbent Ampangan assemblyman Datuk Dr Mohamad Rafie Abdul Malek is facing two rivals in the bid to defend his seat.
The former state industrialisation, investment, education and entrepreneurship committee chairman, who won the constituency on a PKR ticket previously, is now contesting as an independent after he was dropped by his party.
He will be challenged by Pakatan Harapan’s Tengku Zamrah Tengku Sulaiman, who is Seremban PKR Wanita chief and Perikatan’s Muhammad Ghazali Zainal Abidin, who heads the Gedong Lalang Bersatu branch.
In the 2018 general election, Mohamad Rafie won the seat in a straight fight against Barisan’s Datuk Abu Ubaidah Redza with a 1,360-vote majority.
