Oil spill near recreational forest after tanker lorry skids on Johor road


MERSING: An oil tanker lorry skidded causing an oil spill near the Gunung Arong Recreational Forest on Jalan Endau, near here on Wednesday (July 8).

Endau Fire and Rescue station chief Asrul Ahmad said they received an emergency call in regards to the incident at 8.27am.

“A total of five firemen from the Mersing Fire and Rescue station were deployed to the scene located about 20km away and arrived there at 8.48am,’’ he said in a statement.

Asrul added that the incident caused an oil spill covering 20 sq metre in the area.

He said the firemen with a fire rapid tender (FRT) vehicle used a hose reel and sawdust to contain the oil spill from spreading along the road.

The operation ended at 10.41am and the team left the scene after ensuring the road was passable and safe for motorists.
