Top scorers thrilled at perfect CGPA scores

JOHOR BARU: Three good friends, who do everything together, achieved the perfect score in their Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia 2022 examinations.

Having a joint study group paid off for the three from SMK Sultan Ismail as they all achieved a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 4.0 in their results released yesterday.

Amir Haziq Miswan, Lim Meng Han and Louis Low, who are classmates, expressed their gratitude to their teachers for their assistance with their questions. The trio said this during an interview with The Star after the release of the results.

Amir Haziq, 20, said they would study together after school hours to further understand the lessons they learnt.

He added that he has plans to take up economics at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) soon.

For Lim, 20, achieving great results in the STPM would help her realise her lifelong ambition of following in her parents footsteps and becoming a teacher.

“Both my parents are teachers, and I want to become a Bahasa Malaysia teacher in the near future,” she said, adding that she was hopeful about furthering her studies at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).

Meanwhile, Low, 20, said that he has applied to Universiti Malaya (UM) to pursue a law degree because he wants to be a civil servant.

“Among the three of us, Lim is the most hardworking and she will usually push us to study and revise more, especially in the few weeks before the STPM exam.

“Even though the three of us will go our separate ways after this, as each of us has our own dreams, our friendship will stay strong,” he added.

In Parit, Perak, a student achieved a perfect score of 4.0 in her CGPA by solely relying on a mobile phone for online classes.

Nur Izah Sabri, 20, from Seri Iskandar, was among the two students in SMK Iskandar Shah, Parit, who received outstanding results.

“After I completed my Sijil Peperiksaan Malaysia (SPM), I worked as a waitress for two months and earned RM1,200 a month. I used the money to help my parents and to purchase a smartphone for myself that cost RM700.

“My father works as a Felcra settler, while my mother is a full-time housewife. He earns less than RM1,500 a month. I have four siblings and I’m the third child. My older siblings are married and living in other districts and my youngest sister is in Form Three.

“Seeing how hard my father works every day for us, I was determined to do my best in my STPM. I was honestly shocked that I managed to get 4.0 because during the trial I got all Bs in my results,” she told reporters at SMK Iskandar Shah here yesterday.

Nur Izah said she is hoping to further her studies at Universiti Sains Malaysia as she plans to be a Geography teacher.

In Sibu, top scorer David Chieng Joo Sheng of SMK Green Road, Kuching, wants to emulate his father by becoming a doctor.

“Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia has rejected my application to do medicine. I have applied at Unimas and am waiting for the results,” he told reporters after receiving his certificate from State Education director Datuk Dr Azhar Ahmad at SMK Sacred Heart, Sibu, yesterday.

“I thought I would be getting A- for my Biology. Luckily, I got a 4.0,” he said, adding that his parents were also elated with his excellent achievement.

He also said that good time management is very important, especially when one is involved in many co-curricular activities.

“I did not take any tuition classes as I trust all my four subjects’ teachers. In fact, my friends used to say that studying is my second priority in life, as health is my first,” he said.
