Loli drivers wanted, oops ... it’s lorry drivers

A TYPO in a recruitment poster, which made a company seem like it was looking to hire “loli drivers” rather than lorry drivers, sent Internet users into fits of laughter, reported China Press.

The Malay part of the advertisement correctly stated that it was looking for “pemandu lori” aged between 25 and 55.

However, the Chinese translation, which used the character for “loli”, made it seem like the company was hiring “underage girls” to man its fleet of lorries.

When interviewed, a company employee surnamed Lin admitted that he had made the typo.

He revealed that he is English-educated and relied on pinyin spelling to find the right Chinese characters but had carelessly picked “loli” rather than “lorry”.

The ad has since been taken down from social media.

While the unintentionally funny typo caused the poster to be shared more than 800 times on social media, Lin said they had not received any prank calls.Loli is generally associated with a young or young-looking girl character in Japanese anime and manga.

> A Malaysian job scam victim, who remains trapped in Myanmar after one year, regretted leaving the country last year, reported Sin Chew Daily.

The 31-year-old former tutor was lured to Thailand purportedly to work as a translator for a bank.

After reaching Bangkok in July last year, he was dragged into a car and trafficked to the notorious KK Park in southeastern Myanmar.

Forced to work for a scam call centre, the victim described his time there as “mental and physical torture”.

“I hope I will be able to see light at the end of the tunnel soon. I swear I will never take a step outside of Kuala Lumpur again,” he wrote in a text message.

The man first reached out to the Malaysian International Humanitarian Organisation (MHO), which then shared his messages with the daily.

According to the victim, one of the newest methods used to lure unsuspecting victims was bringing them to Bangkok under the pretense of enabling them to obtain a loan there more easily than from banks in Malaysia.

He added that some traffickers would even resort to drugging tourists attending parties in Bangkok before trafficking them to KK Park.

The victim was recently transferred to an area with some 500 people, among whom were an estimated five Malaysians.

“There is no take two in life. Once you get here, it will be extremely difficult to get out!

“To all Malaysians, based on what I have experienced, I beg you to stay in Malaysia and work. You are doing good as long as your life is not in danger,” he said.
