Booked until middle of next year

IPOH: Venues for Indian wedding receptions in Perak are fully booked until next year.

As with the surge in ceremonies in other communities, the increase in weddings among the Indian community here seems to be a form of “catch up” after the pandemic restrictions of the past three years.

The Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Jalan Sungai Pari and the Sri Subramaniar Temple in Gunung Cheroh have halls that can be used for events and both are fully booked until June next year, said M. Vivekananda, president of the Ipoh Hindu Devasthana Paripalana Sabah committee that manages both temples.

When people approach the committee to book traditional wedding ceremonies at the temples, they tend to also take the package deal that offers the halls as a venue for the reception.

Datuk Dr AKS Sakthivel owns four banquet and convention halls in Ipoh, and he said bookings for all the halls are full until March next year.

“For wedding receptions this year, the halls were booked last year itself, while for the events next year, the bookings started to come in early this year,” he said.
