Selangor State Assembly to be dissolved on June 23


KLANG: The Selangor State Assembly will be dissolved on Friday (June 23).

Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah signed the proclamation of the dissolution at Istana Alam Shah here just after 10am on Monday (June 19).

State Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari had an audience with Sultan Sharafuddin earlier Monday morning before the proclamation was made.

Speaker Ng Suee Lim will inform the Election Commission about the dissolution of the 14th term of the Selangor State Assembly.

Polls must also be held by Aug 23, within 60 days of the date of dissolution.

With the dissolution of the Selangor Legislative Assembly, all state seats will fall vacant.

The Selangor executive council will also be disbanded and Amirudin will assume the role of caretaker mentri besar.

Selangor will be facing the polls together with Penang, Kedah, Negri Sembilan, Kelantan and Terengganu, which are still awaiting dissolution.

The dissolution of the Selangor Legislative Assembly on June 23 comes two days before its term officially ends on June 25.
