Immigration nabs 35 at S’gor market

KUALA LUMPUR: Thirty-five undocumented immigrants were rounded up during a raid at the Selangor Wholesale Market in Seri Kembangan.

Immigration director-general Datuk Ruslin Jusoh said 95 foreign men were checked during the operation conducted at about 4.45am on Wednesday.

“Thirty-five of them aged between 21 and 52 were detained for various offences,” he said, adding that those arrested comprised 17 Myanmar nationals, 13 Bangladeshis, two Indian nationals, two Indonesians and one Yemeni.

The raiding team, said Ruslin, faced various challenges including attempts by some foreigners to escape in the heavy rain.

“There were those who managed to escape,” he said.

The immigration team also inspected 42 men and three women from Myanmar who were United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) card holders, he said.

Those detained have been placed at the Semenyih immigration depot for further action.
