Corpse flower set to bloom in Kubah National Park

SIBU: An amorphophallus flower is set to bloom in Kubah National Park, which the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) has described as a rare occurrence.

The SFC said in a Facebook post on Saturday (June 10) that the blooming of amorphophallus at the enchanting Waterfall Trail in the Park was set to attract nature lovers.

"We are delighted to announce the magnificent blooming of amorphophallus in Kubah National Park. Brace yourselves for a mesmerizing spectacle of nature's beauty as these rare and exotic plants unveil their stunning blooms," it said.

This remarkable plant, renowned for its colossal size and distinctive aroma, is a true wonder of nature.

"The blooming of amorphophallus is a truly unique and ephemeral event. Known for its striking appearance and its peculiar scent reminiscent of rotting flesh, this captivating plant attracts curious onlookers from far and wide.

SFC invited the public to witness the breathtaking transformation of amorphophallus, which is also known as the "Corpse Flower".

Witnessing this spectacle is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that you won't want to miss, it said.

However, nature lovers need to follow some important guidelines when witnessing the amorphophallus.

They include staying in designated paths and refraining from touching or disturbing the plants, and those with sensitive noses or respiratory conditions are advised to take precautions as the distinct odour of the Amorphophallus may not be suitable for everyone

Additionally, nature lovers are advised to be mindful of others and refrain from using their flash when taking photographs
