Toddler beaten up, allegedly by mother's boyfriend in Setapak


KUALA LUMPUR: A toddler has suffered multiple injuries to her face and back after being abused, allegedly by her mother's boyfriend.

Wangsa Maju deputy OCPD Deputy Supt D. Saralathan said they received a distress call about the incident at around 5.05pm on Wednesday (June 8).

"The incident involved a one-year, eleven-month-old girl who was allegedly abused at Blok M of the Desa Rejang Flats, Setapak, Kuala Lumpur.

"We received information that a local man, who is the mother's boyfriend, allegedly abused the girl," he said in a statement on Thursday.

He said the suspect sent the girl to her relative's house in Jalan Rejang, Taman Setapak Jaya here after the incident and fled.

"The victim was sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for treatment.

"She suffered a bruised lip, swollen left and right eye sockets and had swelling on her back," he said, adding that police are now looking for the suspect.

He said the suspect has been identified as 31-year-old Amir Shafiq Suhaimi.

"The suspect works as a part-time event promoter.

"Based on our investigations, the girl's mother tried to stop him from abusing the girl but was not able to," he said urging those with information on any offences or illegal activities to contact the police immediately.
