Two killed in car-lorry crash in Sarawak


SIBU: Two women died in an accident involving a car and a tanker lorry at KM49 on Jalan Sibu-Bintulu of the Pan Borneo Highway on Tuesday (June 6).

The victims were identified as Kinun Anyum, 74, and Lidun Meru, 60.

Dalat OCPD Deputy Supt Saga Chunggat said the front seat passenger, Kinun, died while receiving treatment at the Selangau Health Clinic.

"The other victim, Lidun, who was sitting at the back of the car died at the scene," he said.

Saga said the driver of the car, Wani Sempurai, 51, suffered serious injuries and is still being treated at the Selangau Health Clinic.

"The accident happened when the car was trying to make a turn into the road junction when it was hit from behind by the lorry," he said.

According to Saga, the 45-year-old truck driver did not suffer injuries.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987, he said.
