Bail for driver who crashed into six m-cyclists

PETALING JAYA: A motorist who mowed down six motorcyclists seeking shelter from the rain at the North Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) has been released on police bail.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said when contacted that the 26-year-old man was granted the respite to seek treatment at a hospital for shoulder injuries.

It was earlier reported that three motorcyclists were killed while three others suffered serious injuries after the driver, believed to be intoxicated, rammed his car into them.

ACP Fakhrudin had said that the car driver lost control of his vehicle at KM19.6 of the NKVE before hitting the motorcyclists on Sunday morning.

“The motorcyclists were seeking shelter from the rain, underneath a flyover. Three motorcyclists were killed at the scene while three others were rushed to Hospital Sungai Buloh for treatment,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

Police are investigating the case under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, he said, adding that the driver’s blood alcohol level was beyond the permitted limit.
