Six men, one woman held for threatening and beating man in Kota Kinabalu


KOTA KINABALU: Six men and a woman were detained on Friday (June 2) in connection to a case of causing injury and threatening a person here.

Acting Kota Kinabalu OCPD Supt Kalsom Idris commenting on a viral video shared in the social media, said the victim came in on Thursday (June 1) at 5pm to file a police report against the individuals he claimed to not know.

A two-minute-and-56-second clip, apparently taken from a close circuit television (cctv) recording, have been making rounds and circulated on social media showing the incident.

“Initial investigations found the incident to happen outside an entertainment outlet in Luyang area.

“The victim said he was called outside the premises by a woman and a man who he was not familiar with.

“Once outside, he was pushed, punched on the face and kicked on his stomach several times by a few other men, also unknown to him, causing his nose and the right side of his head to bleed.

“He was then dragged by the suspects inside a car to be brought to the Kota Kinabalu police station,” said Kalsom in a statement here.

The victim said his mobile phone was also taken and damaged.

During the car ride, one of the suspects have allegedly brandished an iron stick and threatened him with the words "Kalau kau mengaku semua akan selesai (If you confess everything will be settled)" and "Kau masih keras kepala tidak mengaku (You are still too stubborn to confess)".

“Investigations found three suspects hit the victim multiple times until he sustained injuries and one suspect intimidating him with an iron stick.

“Once arriving at the police station, the victim went to the washroom and cleaned the blood stains on his shirt.

“After a police report was made, the victim went to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital 2 and he was reportedly stable. The cause of the incident is still to be ascertained,” said Kalsom.

Based on information, the police arrested the six men and one woman involved to assist investigations under Section 323/506 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt/ punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Penal Code.

“With the capture of all the suspects, the police believed the case has been solved.

“The police would also like to advise civilians not to speculate or share information from unverified sources regarding this case, which have been uploaded or circulated n social media platforms,” she added.
