Over RM2.3mil allocated to repair Kedah prisons, parole offices

ALOR SETAR: The Home Ministry has allocated more than RM2.3mil for the repair and maintenance of prisons and district parole offices in Kedah.

Its Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said a total of RM1.7mil had been allocated for the repair and maintenance of parole offices in Sungai Petani, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena and Langkawi.

"RM685,000 has been allocated to repair staff quarters at the Alor Setar and Sungai Petani prisons. This is to complete the facilities for the comfort of the staff so that they can provide the best service.

"The ministry will continue its efforts as we are impressed with the commitment of prison staff in turning prisons into training centres to give prisoners a second chance," he told reporters after a working visit to the Alor Setar Prison and a get-together with the People's Volunteers Corps (Rela) members here on Tuesday (May 30).

Meanwhile, Shamsul Anuar said Kedah has over 11,000 Rela members who actively participate in efforts to strengthen and make the Malaysia Madani concept a success. – Bernama
