Zafrul to take the lead for businesses through Umno


PETALING JAYA: Umno has established a secretariat to oversee and empower Malay entrepreneurs in the halal industry, led by Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz (pic) as its chairman.

In a statement, Tengku Zafrul said the secretariat comprised representatives from entrepreneurs, corporate sectors, NGOs and Umno.

“It is established to provide a platform for the party to speak up on affairs for entrepreneurs of the halal industry to dignify the economy of Malays through the empowerment of entrepreneurs in the halal industry,” he said after chairing its first meeting at Menara Dato Onn in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.

He said several goals had been agreed upon through the meeting and would be implemented accordingly.

“Among the goals agreed by this secretariat are to ensure the survival of microtraders, help entrepreneurs transition from medium to large companies, drive and accelerate the development of large companies to the global level, and develop bumiputra technopreneurs for future technology.

“At this meeting, the secretariat committee members have also agreed to encourage the involvement of professionals and successful entrepreneurs from various backgrounds and ages to contribute ideas and views to ensure the agendas are successfully implemented,” he said while thanking Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for the appointment, and welcoming Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad as deputy chairman.
