KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Customs Department has foiled two drug trafficking attempts by smugglers who tried to sneak in cannabis and ketamine via courier services.

A total of 886g of cannabis and 3.01kg of ketamine, worth more than RM184,000, were seized in separate inspections last week.

State Customs Department assistant director-general Mohd Nasir Deraman said the first seizure was made on May 15 when a package containing suspicious substance arrived at a courier company here.

After scanning, its personnel discovered that the consignment contained cannabis, he said.

“Another consignment, which arrived on May 19, contained ketamine weighing 3.01kg,” he told a press conference at Menara Kastam Zon Sabah here yesterday.

Mohd Nasir said the senders of the packages provided fake information on the consignment notes to deceive the authorities.

“The addresses given are non-existent and the names listed are that of dormant companies,” he said.

“Investigations are ongoing and no arrest has been made,” he said, adding that investigation was carried out under Section 39B (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
