LONG-running Hong Kong music show Jade Solid Gold will draw its final curtain after 42 years this Sunday.

According to Sin Chew Daily, the show started on Oct 10, 1981 and has been hosted by music superstars including Andy Lau, Sandy Lam and Leo Ku.

HK broadcaster TVB surprised fans by announcing that the final episode will air on May 21.

While the format of the show has changed throughout the years, it often featured the latest music videos, live performances and a countdown of the top 20 best-selling albums.

In the late 1990s, it transformed into a variety show where artistes were invited to play games on the air.

Along with the final episode, TVB will also air a special segment recapping the show’s history, which will be hosted by singer Kenneth Choi, who was removed in 1985 after making snide remarks against his now-deceased colleague Leslie Cheung.

> A man demanded that a woman return a RM1,000 gift after he failed to court her, China Press reported.

Her former admirer reasoned that since they were “just friends”, he wanted the money he gave her three years ago to keep her business afloat.

Disgusted by his request, the woman posted screenshots of their conversations on Facebook.

“A word of advice to people. If you intend to ask for something you gave, then it is best not to give it as a present in the first place,” she wrote.

According to her posts, the woman had transferred the money to the man and attached a receipt as proof.

She added that she had refused to accept the money three years ago, but the man insisted then that she take it.
