Bilateral Middle East tourism afoot

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah is seeking to work with Egypt and other Middle Eastern destinations on bilateral tourism promotion, says Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew.

She said there are good prospects for forging such tourism relations.

“Once we reach an agreement on the fundamental factors for mutual promotion of tourism, we can establish a framework for bilateral tourism cooperation for business and leisure.

“For example, we can tap into the honeymoon market in Egypt, among other countries in the Middle East,” Liew said after meeting with a three-member delegation from Global Travel Service (GTS Group) led by its Malaysia office manager, Hisham Awny.

The other members were Egypt Promotion’s Ibrahim El Aref, managing director Nancy Zahran from Jordan, and GTS’ local partner Avasi Borneo Tours and Travel’s Alicia Gomes.

The Middle Eastern companies will be at the Sabah MATTA Fair, to be held at the Sabah International Convention Centre from tomorrow to May 21.
