Youth today value opportunities over racial politics, unity govt convention hears


KUALA LUMPUR: Youths are moving beyond racial politics and want the government to focus on improving their livelihood, says MIC youth chief K. Raven Kumar.

He said based on the trend from previous general elections, youth no longer focus only on matters of race.

"They want to see a coalition that is represented by all races and not just one.

"This is the current unity government where we are representing all races," he said at the Unity Government Pemuda Puteri National Convention here on Sunday (May 14).

He said in terms of the economy, youth want to see how many job opportunities are available.

He also suggested the top leadership of the unity government, especially those in the Cabinet, give equal opportunities to youth from different component parties.

"We have many youths here from different racial backgrounds.

"Give them equal opportunities and appoint officers from different parties.

"Those (ministers) from Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) can appoint those from Barisan Nasional or Pakatan Harapan.

"We can mix and match, then we can see the way forward... (for) the next five years," he suggested, stressing the importance of working together among the different political parties.
