KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s graft trial involving 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) has been postponed as he was still being treated for diarrhoea and dehydration.
Court of Appeal judge Justice Collin Lawrence Sequerah, who is presiding at the High Court, made the decision after hearing from Hospital Kuala Lumpur’s clinical medicine specialist Dr Mohd Fadhli Zil Ikram Karim.
To a question by deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Akram Gharib, Dr Mohd Fadhli said he examined the former prime minister while doing his usual clinical rounds at 7.20am yesterday.
“When I examined Najib, he complained that he was still having episodes of loose stool which we examined, and it was indeed loose in nature. So, by this definition, he is still having active diarrhoea,” he said.
Dr Mohd Fadhli said they proceeded with patient care and vitals monitoring, although his blood pressure was stable.
“However, due to diarrhoea, he is showing signs of having a high risk of dehydration. We have to keep him in the ward for intravenous (IV) saline infusion to rehydrate him and monitor his vital signs,” he added.
Dr Mohd Fadhli also said that after consulting with his superior, they concluded that Najib was unfit to attend his 1MDB trial at the High Court because his condition required monitoring, with one-day medical leave provided.
The trial is scheduled to continue on June 21.
Najib, 70, is facing four charges of abusing his position to obtain gratification totalling RM2.28bil in 1MDB funds and 21 counts of money laundering involving the same sum.
