Driver killed after lorry plunges into ravine in Tenom


KOTA KINABALU: A 46-year-old lorry driver was killed when the vehicle plunged into a ravine at Jalan Tenom-Kemabong on Monday (May 8).

The victim was thrown off from the vehicle and was declared dead on the scene, while another unidentified lorry passenger who was injured, was brought to the hospital by an ambulance.

The Tenom Fire and Rescue Department received a report about the incident at 9.50am involving the 10-tonne vehicle.

A spokesman said the driver lost control of the lorry, and it plunged into the ravine.

"The male passenger was sent to the hospital before the team arrived and the driver’s body was found outside the vehicle.

"After his death was declared by the medical officer, the driver’s remains were handed over to the police for further action and the operation ended at 11.42am," said the spokesman.
