Perikatan: No SDs here, our focus is on state polls

PETALING JAYA: Opposition coalition Perikatan Nasional (PN) has denied its MPs have signed statutory declarations (SDs) as part of a plot to topple the unity government.

PN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu said the coalition’s focus is on the upcoming six state elections.

“Perikatan MPs have never signed any SD. We only have 74 (Parliament) seats.

“We are aware of our side’s responsibility as the authoritative Opposition and it will continue,” he told reporters during a Hari Raya event organised by Gombak Setia assemblyman Muhammad Hilman Idham in Taman Selaseh, Batu Caves, yesterday.

Ahmad Faizal said this as rumours persist of the latest plot to unseat the Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim administration by getting some of the 148 MPs, who had initially supported the government, to switch sides.

“Our focus is retaining the governments in Terengganu, Kelantan and Kedah, as well as finding ways to take over Penang, Selangor and Negri Sembilan,” said Ahmad Faizal, who is also Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia deputy president.

“In the spirit of this festival, there is no need to think of the matter (of taking over the government).

“Let’s focus on servicing the people and fostering bonds” he added.

Also present were Selangor Perikatan chairman Datuk Seri Azmin Ali and former Selangor Barisan Nasional head Tan Sri Noh Omar, who was dropped by Umno in the last general election.
