PETALING JAYA: Former spy chief Datuk Hasanah Abdul Hamid passed away following a battle with cancer on Friday (May 5). She was 66.
The former director-general of the Malaysian External Intelligence Organisation passed away at 1.22pm.
Umno supreme council member Isham Jalil in a Facebook post expressed his condolences following her passing.
"I have known Allahyarhamah for several years and we have served together at the Prime Minister's Office. She is a friend and a good and dedicated civil servant that has served the country her entire career," he said.
She was buried on Friday at Pusara Taman Raudhatul Jannah KLM in Kajang at around 4.50pm.
The former spy chief was previously charged with committing a criminal breach of trust involving US$12.1mil (RM50.4mil) belonging to the Malaysian government.
Hasanah was then granted a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) in 2021.
However, in August 2022, she was acquitted after a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) senior superintendent was sentenced by the Sessions Court in February 2022 to three years’ jail and two strokes of the cane for the misappropriation of US$6.94mil (RM29.04mil) in evidence linked to Hasanah’s case.
