Thieves in cargo warehouse heist nabbed

SHAH ALAM: Six men were detained for allegedly stealing eight boxes of microchips worth RM1.5mil from a cargo warehouse at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said two men broke into the warehouse at about 4.30am on April 21.

“They stole eight boxes of microchips meant to be exported to Taiwan based on CCTV footage.

“The chips are raw materials to manufacture mobile phones and televisions,” he told a press conference yesterday.

Comm Hussein said investigations led to several raids at KLIA, Sungai Pelek and Nilai between April 26 and 28.

“We arrested six suspects, including two cargo company workers. The suspects have been remanded and will be released on police bail while waiting for instructions from the deputy public prosecutor,” he said.

Comm Hussein said the suspects ran into trouble offloading the stolen loot as the materials were meant for export.

“We believe they stored the stolen items at various premises. We managed to recover all the stolen materials,” he said.

Comm Hussein also urged those with information on any criminal activity to contact the police.

In another case, a total of 13 men were apprehended over a spate of house break-ins in Selangor since January.

Comm Hussein said the suspects wore masks and were armed with parangs during the break-ins.

“The latest case occurred on April 30, when three suspects stole a car after breaking into a house.

“They fled in the car after discovering the house occupants were at home,” he said.

Comm Hussein said police have arrested 13 men so far during raids conducted in Selangor, Melaka and Johor.

“We recovered 18 cellphones, RM3,000, a laptop and two vehicles believed to have been stolen. “Two other cars used by the suspects were also seized,” he said.

A total of 34 house break-ins and thefts were reported in Selangor between January and April.

“With the arrests, we believe six of the cases were solved.

“We are not ruling out the possibility that the suspects were involved in more cases,” he said.

Comm Hussein said investigations also showed that the suspects stole the vehicles to either sell them or strip them for parts.

“All the suspects are being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code,” he added.

“They fled in the car after discovering the house occupants were at home,” he said.
