IPOH: Many Malaysians took advantage of the recent festive period to visit tourist destinations and indulge in their favourite foods in the city.
Engineer Lee Xin Yi, 25, came to Ipoh with her family a few days earlier to spend a week-long break in the city.
Lee, who is from Kuala Lumpur, described the visit as a trip back home, as her mother is from Ipoh.
“We would come to Ipoh once every few months. Whenever we are here, we stop by some of our favourite food haunts.
“We love the satay at Old Town, the dim sum, the curry noodle in Menglembu, and the yong tau foo at Dai Shu Geok (Big Tree Foot) in Pasir Pinji,” she said when met.
Lee’s family also took the opportunity to travel to several other places in the state.
“We went to Teluk Batik and Sitiawan. My brother and I enjoy photography and would go around snapping pictures,” she said.
Factory worker Shahfuwan Aziz was spotted taking photos with his family at the murals along Lorong Seni at Panglima Lane.
Shahfuwan, who is from Melaka, said it was his first time in the silver state’s capital.
“We will only be here for a day trip as most of us have to work the next day.
“Ipoh is quite similar to my hometown, with a relaxed environment,” said the 26-year-old.
“Our main aim for this trip is to eat some of the food that has gone viral on social media, as we wanted to try something new.
“We had the popular toast bread with soft boiled eggs at Medan Selera Dato Sagor for breakfast,” he said, adding that his family would also be visiting some hipster cafes.
Carny Khoo, who recently graduated from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, Kampar branch, said she decided to pay a visit to Sibu, Sarawak, to surprise her boyfriend.
“Since I am still looking for a good employer, I might as well travel around the country before starting full-time work.
“It will be difficult to apply for leave and take a long stretch of days off once I get a permanent job,” said the Bachelor of Arts (English Language) graduate.
Khoo, 24, said the two-hour flight was smooth except for a delay of more than two hours due to bad weather and other issues.
There, she visited some temples, the Central Market, the night market, and a forest park. She also hopped on a river cruise with her partner Kevin Hu, 25, a businessman.
“The hotel price is reasonable, but the food is not to my taste. But it’s still a good experience since it’s my first visit there,” she said.
