A LAW student in Segamat, Johor, set himself on fire for failing to pass his exam for the third time, China Press reported.

Segamat OCPD Supt Ahmad Zamry Marinsah said an employee at a petrol station, where the incident took place on Monday, managed to douse the flames with an extinguisher.

“However, the man then ran to the middle of the road and sat there.

“A lorry missed ramming into him but the car behind it collided with the lorry,” Supt Ahmad Zamry said in a statement.

The 24-year-old man was later sent to hospital by ambulance.

“Paramedics confirmed that 70% of his body suffered burns,” he said.

The man is said to have been too ashamed to meet his family after failing his exam for a third time.

The case is being probed under Section 309 of the Penal Code for attempted suicide, which carries a year’s jail, a fine, or both.

> The daily also reported that Hong Kong actress Sit Yeng Yi was barred from entering Hong Kong Disneyland after she arrived dressed as a princess.

In photos uploaded by Malaysian lyricist Monsterz Lee, several security guards could be seen stopping her at the entrance.

“It’s a shame that the Disneyland security guards would not allow her to enter. She ended up putting on a black T-shirt and asking us to take a photo of her in her dress when there was no one around,” Lee said.

Despite being disappointed, Sit continued to pose for photographs with fans.

She told Lee that she had not been to the theme park for 10 years and decided to dress up as Belle from Beauty and the Beast during her visit this time.

“Sigh. She really wanted to be a princess for a day,” Lee said.

It’s the theme park’s policy not to allow any visitors aged 16 and above to enter dressed in a costume.

Sit, 38, had announced that she would dress up as a princess at Disneyland once her latest music video One Plus One Equals Ah Yi reaches one million views on YouTube, which it did in just nine days.

The music video was largely produced by a Malaysian team, one of whom was Lee who wrote the lyrics of the song.
