Ammar Abd Ghapar appointed new Tourism Malaysia DG


PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Dr Ammar Abd Ghapar has been appointed as the new director-general of the Malaysian Tourism Promotion Board (Tourism Malaysia), effective April 12.

Tourism Malaysia, in a statement, said that Ammar, who was previously the senior director of Tourism Malaysia's International Promotion Division (Americas, Europe and Oceania), is replacing Datuk Zainuddin Abdul Wahab who retired on April 10.

Ammar, having served in the public service for 35 years, had been entrusted to carry out the duties of senior director of management in addition to leading the Strategic Planning Division as well as the Domestic and Events Division of Tourism Malaysia.

He has also served, among others, as Tourism Malaysia’s Finance Division director; Foreign Affairs director in Osaka, Japan and Moscow, Russia respectively in 1999 and 2008 as well as state director of Tourism Malaysia Kedah/Perlis in 2005.

In 2021, Ammar headed the Secretariat of the Travel Bubble Task Force to drive recovery efforts in the tourism industry affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. - Bernama
