Political situation in Melaka has nothing to do with other states, says Zahid

MUAR: There may not be a unity government in Johor because the political situation in the state is not the same as in Melaka, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

"The political atmosphere in other states may be different from what is happening in Melaka.

"I hope there is no speculation because the important thing is political stability – not only at national level. We believe that there needs to be stability for each state administration," he said at a press conference during the Santunan Kasih Ramadan programme at Masjid Jamek Kampung Sungai Gersik here on Thursday (March 30) evening.

The Bagan Datuk MP, however, added that the people expect political stability to be translated into an influx of investment from abroad as well as increased economic opportunities.

"Stability will also bring confidence to the people in the leadership of the state and I am sure that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim hopes for political stability as well," he said.

He was asked if the Johor government would also establish a unity government, following the footsteps of Melaka.

When asked what political changes are expected in Melaka under the leadership of a new chief minister and executive council, Ahmad Zahid said he was confident that the spirit of the unity government at national level would be successfully replicated at state level, as well as in the upcoming six state elections.

"I have been informed that the Johor government has provided suitable provisions for all 56 assemblymen.

"This certainly provides good optics for the Johor government and it will certainly be able to provide balance between the state government represented by Barisan Nasional assemblymen and those from other coalition parties, including those not with the Federal Government," he added.
