Melaka State Assembly opposition leader respects Sulaiman's decision to resign

MELAKA: Melaka Legislative Assembly opposition leader Dr Mohd Yadzil Yaakub said he respected the decision of Lendu assemblyman Sulaiman Md Ali (pic) to submit his resignation letter as the state Chief Minister.

Mohd Yadzil, who was also the State Perikatan Nasional chairman also extended his highest appreciation to Sulaiman for his services during his tenure.

"We take the stand to not interfere in the affairs of political crisis within Melaka Barisan Nasional.

"Perikatan assemblymen and I will continue to act as a credible opposition. We will continue to fight for the voice of the people and be a good check and balance to the Melaka state government," he said in a statement on Thursday (March 30).

He also hoped that the new chief minister would continue to put the people's agenda first and bring progress to the state.

Rumours about the new Melaka chief minister went viral on social media on Wednesday (March 29) after information about the swearing-in ceremony, which is scheduled to be held on Friday (March 31).

Among the names mentioned to succeed Sulaiman was Tanjung Bidara assemblyman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, who was also Melaka Umno liaison committee chairman. - Bernama
