JASIN: Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi confirmed on Monday (March 27) that Paya Rumput assemblyman Datuk Rais Yasin (pic) remains as head of the Tangga Batu Umno division.

He said the matter was confirmed by Umno Elections Committee chairman Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad on Monday.

"I would like to confirm that the chairman of the Umno Elections Committee has informed me (that there is no cancellation letter) and Datuk Rais has been confirmed as head of the Tangga Batu Umno division," he told reporters at the Ramadan Charity Ceremony at Ar-Rahman Mosque, Kampung Pulai, Serkam here Monday night.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, said this when asked to comment on a viral letter dated March 27 that claimed Rais's victory as Tangga Batu Umno head had been annulled.

Tangga Batu Umno secretary Datuk Abdul Latip Mohamad was reported to have said that he received notification about Rais' victory being cancelled through a letter from central Umno received via WhatsApp at 2.26pm Monday.

Abdul Latip said the letter informed him about an irregularity of the meeting in the Umno election process for the division which took place in a hotel recently. - Bernama
