Lorry driver killed in accident near Tawau


A 33-year-old man was killed when he lost control of the log-laden lorry he was driving along Kilometre 136, Jalan Kalabakan-Maliau Basin in Tawau on Monday.

KOTA KINABALU: A 33-year-old driver was killed when he lost control of the log-laden lorry he was driving along a road in Tawau on Monday (March 27).

According to Tawau district police chief ACP Jasmin Hussin, they received the report at 10.05am about the fatal accident that occurred at Kilometre 136, Jalan Kalabakan – Maliau Basin.

"Initial investigations on scene found the incident to have happened around 9am when the vehicle was heading towards Ladang Brantian direction to send over the logs.

"The driver was believed to have lost control of the lorry and swerved into the opposite lane, resulting in the vehicle toppling and sliding towards the side of the road at about 66 metres.

"Due to the impact, the victim was thrown out from the vehicle through the broken front windshield.

"He died on location due to severe injuries and investigations are being conducted under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (causing death by reckless or dangerous driving)," Jasmin added
