Late-night tipple sees 11 nabbed in JB for fighting

JOHOR BARU: Eleven people, including teenagers, were arrested by the police for fighting in public at a residential area here.

Seri Alam OCPD Supt Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the 10 male suspects and a woman were arrested following the street brawl which took place in Taman Cendana, Pasir Gudang at 11.05pm on March 19.

"The fight started after a few of the suspects apparently got drunk.

"The suspects, aged 17 to 53, were arrested for public nuisance on the same night," he said, adding that six of them possessed a combined 13 criminal offences and three drug offences on their records.

One suspect was also wanted in relation to two drug cases.

Supt Mohd Sohaimi added that nine of those arrested had been charged in court and fined RM2,000 each under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting, in default five months' jail.

"The people are advised to refrain from getting involved in activities that can disrupt public peace," he said.

A 90sec video of the brawl has been making the rounds on social media showing those involved punching, kicking and shouting at each other.
