KUALA LUMPUR: After almost 43 years of service, Jen Tan Sri Zamrose Mohd Zain is officially calling it a day.

The 28th Army Chief handed over command to newly-promoted Jen Datuk Seri Mohammad Ab Rahman in a ceremony yesterday at Wisma Pertahanan here.

The event, witnessed by Armed Forces Chief Jen Tan Sri Affendi Buang and Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, saw Jen Mohammad receiving his new rank after being promoted from Lt-Jen before receiving the baton of command.

In his speech, Mohamad thanked Jen Zamrose for his decades-long service.

“Famous for his strictness and penchant for always putting duty first, Jen Zamrose has successfully lifted the army to a higher level as a credible force and as one that is trusted by the public to protect the peace and sovereignty of the country.

“I wish you well as you enter retirement,” he said, adding that he hoped the former army chief would contribute even during his retirement.

Jen Mohammad, a son of Kelantan, has served for 36 years.

The 59-year-old held numerous high profile postings including as a staff officer to the United Nations’ mission in Congo and as senior director of the Malaysian Institute of Defence and Security.

He has served as deputy army chief since December 2020.
