What a buzzkill: Hiker hurt in bee attack at George Town's Youth Park

GEORGE TOWN: A hiker was hurt in a bee attack at Youth Park here on Thursday (March 16) afternoon.

The man, believed to be in his 60s, was stung by a swarm of bees at about 3pm while he was about to start hiking with his friends.

It is learnt that the rest of the group managed to get away from the swarm but the victim could not escape quickly enough and was stung several times.

It is not known at the time of writing if any of the other hikers were injured or what provoked the bees into attacking.

In a video clip that went viral later in the day, the victim is seen lying on the ground and trying to fend off the bees with his shirt.

A group of passers-by is seen trying to help by using smoke to drive away the bees.

It is learnt that the victim was then sent to Hospital Penang for treatment in an ambulance.
