Anifah to be made senator

KOTA KINABALU: Former foreign minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman (pic) will be made a senator, says Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS) secretary-general Datuk James Ligunjang.

“Yes, it’s true that he will be sworn in as a senator at the Dewan Negara. As to when he received the notice, you have to ask him (Anifah),” Ligunjang said when contacted yesterday.

Anifah, 69, is expected to be sworn in as senator on Monday.

His appointment as a senator is believed to be made following a recommendation from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Anifah quit Umno in 2018 and took over as PCS president in 2020.

The 69-year-old former Kimanis MP did not contest in GE15. However, he had been campaigning for Pakatan Harapan candidates and attended their campaign programmes.

Among them was a ceramah in Putatan which was attended by Anwar, who is Pakatan chairman and PKR president.
