Michelle Yeoh to be among first inductees in Ipoh's planned hall of fame

IPOH: Plans are in motion to induct personalities from the city into a hall of fame, says mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin.

He said among the proposed inductees is Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh, who won the Best Actress Oscar at the 95th Academy Awards on Monday (March 13) for her starring role in the comedy-fantasy Everything, Everywhere All At Once.

"Firstly, we congratulate Tan Sri.

"We are thinking of setting up a hall of fame, in which we will include her," he told a press conference after opening a cafe at Taman Meru Emas here on Tuesday (March 14).

"We are also looking at inducting other famous personalities from Ipoh," he added.

Yeoh, the first Malaysian to win an acting Oscar, beat Australian actress and two-time winner Cate Blanchett – said to be her closest contender – as well as Ana De Armas, Michelle Williams and Andrea Riseborough for the coveted prize.

According to Rumaizi, Yeoh was an unofficial "influencer" for Ipoh.

"We hope her success will attract more domestic and international tourists to visit our city," he said.
