Umno polls: Reject candidates who want to work with the Opposition, says Zahid

KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pic) has called on Umno members to reject candidates vying for positions in the party polls who want the party to be aligned with the Opposition.

In his speech during the introduction of Umno polls candidates here on Tuesday night (March 7), the Umno president urged to choose leaders who had the party's best interests at heart.

"We want those who can of the same mind with the leadership to empower Umno and defend the existing government.

"We don't want people among who will undermine the present government (or) who intend to take others en bloc to support another party," said Zahid, who is also Deputy Prime Minister.

In his speech earlier, the Umno president endorsed Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin's leadership, backing him to continue leading Sabah Umno despite the many hurdles the party had faced in the state.

"I am confident that under Bung Moktar's leadership, Sabah Umno will remain relevant in the political arena," he said.

Ahmad Zahid reminded candidates in the Umno polls to toe the party line or risk being disqualified.

He said he had received reports from the disciplinary board as well as the party election committee that some have breached election rules.

"I would like to remind agents, campaign managers and candidates to follow the rules.

"I am worried that some might be disqualified even before the election," he said.
