Floods: Number of victims in Johor above 40,000

JOHOR BARU: The number of flood evacuees in Johor is about 40,000 with Batu Pahat remaining the worst-hit district in the state.

The Johor Disaster Management Committee said as of 8pm on Tuesday (March 7), there were a total of 40,008 evacuees seeking shelter at 200 temporary relief centres (PPS) in eight districts.

"Batu Pahat still tops the number of most evacuees in Johor with 27,289 individuals at 89 active PPS.

"This is followed by Muar (4,079), Tangkak (2,491), Segamat (2,158), Kluang (1,386), Kota Tinggi (1,336), Mersing (1,162), and Pontian (107)," the statement read.

It added that based on the weather forecast from the Malaysia Meteorological Department, rain is expected to hit Kota Tinggi and Mersing on Tuesday night.
