Most houses built since 2018 cost RM1mil

HOUSES that cost more than RM1mil were built more than any other type since 2018, followed by those below RM300,000.

There were 168,927 of such homes costing above RM1mil, said Deputy Local Government Development Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir.

These were among a total of 453,761 units built by the private sector and the government from 2018 till last year, he said.

Of that figure, 162,284 units cost below RM300,000, he said.

“Houses below RM300,000 represents 35.8% of the total sale of units that were developed during the five-year period,” he added.

Other types of houses that were constructed were 70,779 units costing between RM500,000 and RM1mil, and 51,771 homes worth between RM300,000 and RM500,000.

“For houses worth between RM500,000 and RM1mil, there is a drastic reduction in 2021 that might have been caused by the Covid-19 pandemic,” Akmal said, adding, however, that the number went up last year.

Akmal also said that during the same period, the government approved the renewals and applications of 4,829 advertising and sales permits which involved 426,780 housing units across the country.

He also noted that 26,981 housing units were built under Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR) and People’s Housing Project (PPR) under the purview of the ministry and its agencies.

Akmal was responding to Wan Razali Wan Nor (PN-Kuantan), who wanted to know the number of new development projects and housing units across the country in the past five years.
