Anwar attends Dewan Rakyat Speaker's open house


KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail on Thursday attended the Aidilfitri open house of Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul held at his official residence here.

Anwar, who was wearing a yellow baju Melayu complete with sampin, arrived at noon and was greeted by Johari.

The Prime Minister and his wife spent about 40 minutes at the event to enjoy the meal and mingled with the guests present.

Among the dishes served were steamed tapioca and grated coconut, lemang, rendang, mi rebus, fried noodles, various kuih (cakes) and cendol.

The ceremony which started from noon to 4pm was also attended by the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar.

Also present were several MPs including the MP for Subang who is also the 15th Parliamentary Special Select Committee (JKPK) chairman on International Relations and International Trade, Wong Chen and Selayang MP who is also the Chairman of the JKPK for Human Rights, Elections and Institutional Reform William Leong Jee Keen.

Also present were foreign delegates including from Egypt, Turkey, Nepal, Algeria, India and Romania while corporate and professional figures also attended the open house. - Bernama
