Genting tour van crash: Co-driver succumbs to injuries, death toll rises to seven (Updated)

GENTING HIGHLANDS: The death toll in the tourist van crash here has increased to seven after the co-driver succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.

Pahang police chief Comm Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf said six people died at the scene.

"The six have been identified as the driver Wong Choun Chiet, 49, Foong Ah Lan, 68, Lee Moy, 67, Goh Siew Kim, 61, Ang Meng Hong, 62, and Seow Mee Tin, 72.

“Chang Them Kong, 70, was among six people who was sent to Hospital Kuala Lumpur but died while receiving medical treatment," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Feb 8).

He said two others were sent to the Bentong Hospital for medical treatment but were later transferred to the Temerloh Hospital.

"We urge anyone who witnessed the accident to come forward and assist further investigations.

"We also want to remind motorists to always be cautious, courteous and ensure their vehicles are well maintained before taking to the roads," he said.

Earlier, a spokesman from the Genting Highlands Fire Station said they were alerted about the accident at around 1.15pm today.

"We immediately dispatched a fire engine and six personnel to the scene and they arrived about 15 minutes later.

"The accident occurred when a small tour bus crashed into the divider," he said when contacted.

He said a total of 14 people were travelling in the bus at the time of the accident.
