People trapped in coal mine accident in SW China


KUNMING, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- A gas outburst struck a coal mine at around 6 p.m. Wednesday in Zhenxiong County, southwest China's Yunnan Province, local authorities said on Thursday.

Firefighters and other rescue personnel have rescued some of the trapped people. As of around 11:50 p.m. Wednesday, there were still others being trapped.

Rescue efforts and an investigation into the cause of the accident are underway.
