MACC probe against Bersatu an abuse of govt agencies, claims Hamzah

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC)'s investigation and the freezing of Bersatu's accounts are an abuse of government agencies, alleges Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin.

The party secretary-general also said that Bersatu believes this was an effort to distract the people from "the failures and weaknesses of the government".

He said the party accepted that the MACC was carrying out its investigations and that party leaders and officers have been asked to give their full cooperation.

"However, we regret the actions of the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional government to abuse the government agency (MACC) to kill the credibility of the Bersatu and Perikatan Nasional.

"Bersatu maintains its principles of integrity and good governance. All Bersatu leaders and members are asked to be patient," said Hamzah.

He was responding to reports that Bersatu's accounts were frozen by MACC more than a fortnight ago.

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said on Feb 1 that Bersatu was currently being investigated under the Money Laundering Act and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 but the probe was not related to Covid-19 stimulus package funds as alleged.
