Wan Azizah not appointed to PM's dept role, says Anwar's aide

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's political secretary Chan Ming Kai says that a poster alleging that the Prime Minister's wife, Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, has been appointed to an official role in the Prime Minister's Department, is fake.

"Yes (it's fake)," Chan told The Star briefly when asked if the poster was fake.

The poster, which has been going around on social media since Monday (Jan 30), congratulates Dr Wan Azizah for her appointment as the chairman of Federal Territories Lawmakers, which allegedly comes under the Federal Territories Department of the Prime Minister's Department.

This came amidst criticism over the appointment of Anwar's daughter Nurul Izzah Anwar as a senior adviser for economics and finance.

Nurul Izzah had revealed in an exclusive interview with Sunday Star that she had been serving as senior adviser to the Prime Minister since Jan 3.

However, Anwar later told a press conference after launching the Tambun parliamentary service centre in Meru Raya on Sunday (Jan 29) that Nurul Izzah was not being paid for the role.
