Over 1,600 accidents reported on Jan 24, seventh day of Ops Selamat


KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 1,649 accidents occurred on Tuesday (Jan 24), the seventh day of Ops Selamat conducted in conjunction with Chinese New Year.

Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director Datuk Mat Kasim Karim said a total of 2,002 vehicles were involved.

"Of that number, 1,492 were cars, 269 were four-wheel drive vehicles, and 168 were motorcycles.

"Three taxis, 28 lorries, 11 buses, 30 vans and one bicycle were also involved," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Jan 25).

On Tuesday, the department released an infographic showing that 1,312 cases were recorded on Monday (Jan 23), involving 1,603 vehicles.
