Take steps to overcome confusion over new prepaid card, Salahuddin tells TNG

PETALING JAYA: Touch 'n Go has been told to take immediate action to overcome the confusion on the use of its newly launched Visa prepaid card, says Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub.

Touch 'n Go representatives have been told to improve their prepared information so consumers would get the necessary information regarding the use and functions of the card, said the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister.

"They also need to strengthen communications so that consumers will not be confused about the function of the card," he said in a Twitter post on Saturday (Jan 21).

On Wednesday (Jan 18), Touch ‘n Go Group, via the Touch ‘n Go ewallet, launched the first corporate social responsibility (CSR)-linked Visa prepaid card in Malaysia.

TNG Digital Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Alan Ni said the company and Visa had integrated innovation and advanced technology to deliver enterprise-grade security and features for the prepaid card.

He said with all the features incorporated in this card, Touch ‘n Go ewallet is now able to offer all the services equivalent to an alternative bank to all ewallet users for free.

However, some netizens were unhappy over the reasons behind the new card, which would have an annual fee of RM8 and a RM1.40 charge for every ATM transaction.

Salahuddin suggested Touch 'n Go use the pop-up notice as a notification to users rather than just providing information through the normal FAQ sheets.

"Touch 'n Go will also need to keep the public informed either through mass media or electronic media regarding the function of the Visa card," he added.
