Senior citizen held over Sentul car break-ins

KUALA LUMPUR: A senior citizen has been arrested in connection with a number of car break-ins and thefts in Sentul here.

Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Beh Eng Lai said police received a report on Jan 11 from a complainant who parked near the Persatuan Perkuburan Cina office in Jinjang.

"The complainant claimed two laptops and RM11,000 were stolen from the vehicle which had one of its rear windows broken.

"Based on our investigations, we arrested two men in raids at Jinjang Selatan and Rawang on the night of Jan 13.

"We arrested a 64-year-old man and a 29-year-old man believed to be involved in the case," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Jan 17).

He said they also seized 11 laptops, two mobile phones, three Touch 'N Go cards and RM3,500 cash.

"Based on our investigations the older suspect would observe vehicles parked near restaurants.

"The suspect would then use a screwdriver to shatter the quarter panel window to get into the vehicle," he said.

He added that checks found the senior citizen had 17 offences of various types in his record.

"The younger suspect works at a mobile phone and computer shop at a shopping mall in Jinjang here.

"We have connected the suspects to at least 11 cases in Sentul," he said.
