Boy found alone at road junction in Cheras referred to Welfare Dept

KAJANG: The boy found sitting alone at a road junction at Batu 9, Cheras, has been referred to the Welfare Department.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zaid Hassan said that the boy, believed to be a foreigner, was still at Hospital Kajang for further medical checks.

"We have yet to receive the full medical report.

"He is still placed at the hospital for further checks but he is in good condition," he said when met on the sidelines of Selangor's Ops Selamat launch on Monday (Jan 16).

So far, the parents have not come forward, he said.

"We urge them to come forward as soon as possible.

"We are still investigating the matter further to track down the boy's family," he added.

The police have called on the assistance of a Myanmar national to communicate with the boy, he said.

"However, the child did not understand what was being said by the Myanmar national," he said.

It was previously reported that a boy was found sitting alone at a road junction near the Cheras Utama apartments at Batu 9, here, with minor injuries on his body.

ACP Mohd Zaid had said the child, who was about four years old and could not speak the local language, was found by a man at 11.30pm on Friday (Jan 13).

He said acting on a report, Batu Police Station 9 sent a team to the location and the boy was brought back to the police station where no identification was found on him.

"We did find several injuries on the boy's body, hands and forehead. We suspect he is not a local citizen because there is no sign (scar) of a vaccine jab on his shoulder," he said, adding that the boy was later sent for treatment at the Kajang Hospital.

He said an investigation paper had been opened under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 because there were elements of child abuse and neglect.

"Anyone with information can contact any police station or investigating officer Insp Mohd Zaiyaudi Mohd Yaakub directly at 019-535 5395," he said.
