Cops looking for delivery rider caught on video insulting woman's modesty

PETALING JAYA: Police are looking for a delivery rider who allegedly insulted the modesty of a woman.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said they were alerted after a police report was lodged on Sunday (Jan 8).

"The 27-year-old complainant, a woman, claimed a local man had made lewd comments to her.

"A video was circulated on social media said to be of the man involved," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Jan 11).

He said police have opened investigations under Section 509 of the Penal Code for intentionally insulting the modesty of any woman by word, through sound, gesture or object.

The 1-minute 9- second video shows a man who appears to be a delivery rider speaking to another man who is recording him.

In the video, the suspect can be heard saying, "Kalau dekat Thailand, ini perempuan sedap"(if in Thailand, this woman would be delicious).

The man behind the camera then tells him that he was talking about his girlfriend. The suspect apologises, saying in an irritated tone that he did not know.

When the man threatens to go to the police, the suspect tells him to go ahead.

ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin urged witnesses or anyone with information on the incident to come forward and contact Asst Supt Low Eng Keong at 010-401 2069.
