IPOH: Two brothers were killed when the car they were in fell into a monsoon drain in front of the Meru Raya Fire and Rescue Department station here.
Aged 22 and 29, the siblings died on the spot in the pre-dawn accident along Jalan Jelapang-Chemor yesterday, said Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Hassan.
“They were on their way home from a friend’s house in Kuala Kangsar.
“The younger brother, who was driving, lost control of the vehicle and it crashed through a side barrier and fell into the drain. A witness said that there were no other cars involved,” he said in a statement.
ACP Yahaya said the 22-year-old man was a Universiti Malaysia Perlis student while the elder brother was an engineer who worked in Singapore.
“Both victims were found trapped within the wrecked car. Their bodies were retrieved by Fire and Rescue Department personnel.
“The incident will be investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act,” he said.
A spokesman from the Perak Fire and Rescue Department had earlier said that the accident was believed to have occurred at about 5.20am.
The victims were later identified as R. Dhaarnish, 29, and R. Shaamalen, 22.
In Sepang, Selangor, Bernama reported that a 16-year-old student was killed when the motorcycle he was riding hit a buffalo on Jalan Dengkil Air Hitam at 1.30am yesterday.
Sepang district police chief Asst Comm Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof said the boy died at the scene from head injuries.
He said investigations revealed the victim was riding alone from Dengkil to his house in Taman Dengkil Jaya when a buffalo suddenly crossed the road.
“He was confirmed dead at the scene by paramedics,” he said in a statement.
